Cashless bus traffic in Erfurt: Future vision or real hurdle?

Cashless bus traffic in Erfurt: Future vision or real hurdle?

From 2025, public transport in Erfurt will be cashless. The Erfurt Verkehrsbetriebe (EVAG) plan to abolish cash payments on the buses, so that passengers can only buy tickets with a card or cashless payment methods. This decision aims to digitize local transport and make it more efficient. According to a spokesman for EVAG, passengers can continue to pay cash on ticket machines and service points in the city.

The reactions to this change are mixed. Many are enthusiastic about the modernization, while others express concerns. Older people in particular could have difficulty getting used to the new payment methods. Critics also criticize that the ticket machines in the urban area are inadequate and often do not accept any notes. This could lead to problems, especially for children and students who spontaneously want to take a journey. The discussion about whether this digitization is a relief or an obstacle has already caused a stir on social media. Read more about this here .
