Erfurt chooses: Student Simulation for the Thuringian state election in schools

in Erfurt, students began to raise their voice in a practical framework. Last Wednesday, August 28th, despite the upcoming Thuringian state election, a trial coordination took place at the Otto-Lilienthal school in the Rieth district of Erfurt. Here the students of the 9th, 10th and 11th grades were allowed to test their right to vote, which is not only about initial experience with democracy, but also a better understanding of the election processes in Germany.

A total of 27 schools in Erfurt took part in this project, which is organized by a Berlin club that is organized. The initiative has set itself the task of promoting awareness of political participation. Schools not only receive teaching material, but also the complete equipment of a likely polling station, including electoral booths and sealed ballot boxes. This creates an authentic atmosphere and gives the students a realistic insight into the course of an election.

practical democracy experience for the students

The importance of such projects is particularly evident in social studies, where the theoretical basics are treated to vote. From the first voice to the second vote, again to the question of what happens if you don't want to vote at all - the junior choice gives these topics in an understandable and tangible way. Schools with vocational school classes also take part. Here, many first voters nationwide choose 18 years or older. It is important that your voice remains impartial, which makes the results safe and unchallenged.

As part of this initiative, the students of the Otto-Lilienthal school also experienced that the ballot is an important participation in the company. The results of the trial choice were counted on the same day. But while the tension rose among the participants, they have to be patient until September 1st if the final results are announced after the real polling stations are closed.

between the result and reality: U18 election brings new knowledge

Another important aspect is the U18 election, which has recently been organized by the Federal Youth Ring. This choice was aimed specifically at children and adolescents to give them the opportunity to express their political preferences. Around 2,000 young voters were active in all of Thuringia and seven facilities took part in the election in Erfurt. The results of this choice show that the AfD achieved a clear majority among the young people with a good 37 percent. Even if these results are not representative, they illustrate the political inclinations and the growing interest of the young generation in political issues.

So

Erfurt is not only in the sign of the upcoming state election, but also aims to inform and motivate the citizens of tomorrow with these second electoral groups in schools. The diplomatic training in elections and commitment is uniformly important and cannot be emphasized often enough, especially in today's political uncertainties. Education and practical experience are the keys to educate an informed electorate.

In this way,

a strong awareness of the voting and for democracy is promoted by the students. Such initiatives help to form their opinion, show commitment and to actively contribute in their own future.
