The craft professions are experiencing a positive development in Thuringia, since more and more young people are interested in training in this area. This is reflected in the increasing figures for the completed training contracts. The Erfurt Chamber of Crafts recorded an increase of 3.5 percent compared to the previous year. A total of 835 young people have decided to train in the craft since the beginning of the year.

In the Erfurt Chamber District, there are 1264 training companies that offer a total of 6100 free training positions. "We cannot currently predict whether the positive trend will last until the end of the year. Nevertheless, we are optimistic, since only half of all training contracts are traditionally concluded in the first half of the year," explains Thomas Malcherek, Managing Director of the Erfurt Chamber of Crafts.

From October 2023 to the end of June of this year, a total of 6,800 applicants have registered for a training position. In June, however, 2400 of them had not signed a contract. A total of more than 11,800 apprenticeships were available, of which 6100 are still vacant, according to the regional directorate of the Federal Working Agency.

The increasing popularity of craftsmanship among young people is a gratifying trend that indicates an increasing appreciation of these professional fields and the attractiveness of practical training. It is to be hoped that this positive trend will continue and that more and more young people will find their way into a promising craft career.
