Fine and warnings: Police take stock of speed controls
In the last speed control week, which was carried out in several counties, the results of the police show alarming numbers. From August 5 to August 11, a total of 5100 road users were objected to, which underlines the urgency of this topic.
Focus of speed monitoring
The speed controls took place in the districts of Reutlingen, Esslingen, Tübingen and Zollernalbkreis. As part of the Europe-wide “Speedweek”, the traffic and police areas worked closely together to monitor endangered routes. Light barrier measuring devices in particular were used to capture the drivers.
Consequences for excessive speed
The results are significant: Around 4700 of the contested drivers were recorded by light barrier measurements, while additional 340 drivers with laser handmuff devices were directly stopped. Around 900 drivers now have to expect fine advertisements and points in the traffic central register in Flensburg, whereby 87 could be sentenced to a driving ban.
Goals of the speed control
The need for these measures is particularly urgent. Last year there were 30 traffic accidents in the area of the Reutlingen police headquarters, in which 32 people died. Each fifth of these accidents was due to exceeding speeds, which underlines the relevance of such controls for traffic safety.
Outlook for the future of traffic safety
The police are planning to further improve the speed monitoring and carry out sustainably. These controls are not only important for traffic safety, but also for the awareness of drivers on the streets with regard to safe speeds. The aim is to reduce the speed level in the long term through continuous monitoring and thus avoid accidents.
