Daimler boss suggests a higher fuel price for e-car boom!
Esslingen, Deutschland - The German automotive industry is under pressure while the demand for electric cars is stagnating. The Daimler truck boss Martin Daum demands a drastic solution: an annual increase in gasoline prices by ten cents to promote switching to e-cars. In a SWR video cast, Daum explained that this measure could influence the purchase decision of the drivers in the long run, since the increasing costs would persuade them to switch to electrical vehicles.
Daum is an opponent of state subsidies for electric cars and emphasizes that the promotion of new technologies only makes sense in the introductory phase. He warns the federal government to invest in the necessary infrastructure instead in order to increase the acceptance and use of electric vehicles. While the traffic sector is responsible for a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany, Daum is convinced that higher taxation of fossil fuels would be an effective means of fighting climate change. Further details on Daums suggestions are at www.bw24.de to read.
