Teckbahn celebrates 125 years: steam train event in the Lenninger valley
In just a few days, the Lenninger valley becomes the scene of a special event, because on Sunday, September 15th, the Teckbahn will celebrate its 125th anniversary. This anniversary not only promises the use of a historical steam train, but also a colorful supporting program that will captivate the entire region.
After almost 25 years of break, the steam train, provided by the company for the preservation of rail vehicles (GES), is again used to drive the route between Kirchheim and Oberlenning. Around four trips are planned on the festive day, and the anticipation is already clearly noticeable. Wolfgang Steiger, member of the GES, confirms: "Both among the population and among the railway friends in the region, the interest is huge in advance."
The experience steam train
The steam locomotive, an imposing 1500 hp freight train towing locomotive from 1942, is combined with open passenger cars from the post-war period, which offers passengers the opportunity to open the windows and to experience the nostalgic flair of steam train ride up close. Departures are scheduled in Kirchheim at 10:00 a.m., 2:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. during the train at 11:25, 13:25, 3:25 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. Oberlenningen.
Since there are no more alternating points on the route, there will only be one train on the Teckbahn at the same time. On this special day, S-Bahn Stuttgart GmbH will therefore carry out regular train traffic in rail replacement (SEV) so that the commuters can get to the usual stops by buses. This shows how important the celebrations are for the region, since they not only offer historical flair, but also ensure the mobility of people in the area.
For interested parties who want to set off early on, a train connection from Esslingen is offered. The planned departure takes place at 8:47 a.m., with further holding in Plochingen, Wendlingen and Ötlingen. Return trips are also possible, with the last departure from Kirchheim at 6:10 p.m.
attractive day ticket and tips for visiting
In order to enable visitors to make a carefree experience, the GES offers a special day ticket that is intended for the anniversary day. Adults pay 20 euros for this, children between the ages of four and 15 only ten euros. A family day ticket for two adults and their children up to 15 years costs 50 euros. These tickets are available directly from the conductors on the train and at the Gesinfostand in Oberlenningen, whereby the GES recommends to buy the cards online in advance to prevent long queues on the event day.
The association has also provided valuable information on its website to ensure that the celebrations go smoothly. Frank Schiller from GES emphasizes the importance of security: "We want to strengthen and avoid familiarity in dealing with the historical railway." Recommendations include simple measures such as getting out before you get out before you get into yourself, as well as compliance with a respectful distance from the track.
The GES, a non -profit association, has been committed to combining the nostalgic travel of past times with lively history since 1965. Their efforts to maintain and operate historical railway vehicles enable people to understand the adventure of the steam train ride to its full extent. With its commitment, the GES shows not only the preservation of history, but also the joy of traditional trips that kidnaps visitors into the past.
