Bloody escalation: Netanyahus offensive on the Gaza Strip starts soon
Gazastreifen, Palästina - The conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip has again gained intensity in the past few days. On May 14, 2025, three rockets from the Gaza Strip were fired on Israel, with two floors being intercepted. A rocket ended up in an open area, while the Palestinian Islamic Jihad declared the attack in response to Israeli attacks. In the past few days, Palestinian sources have reported that at least 29 people were killed in Israeli air stripes in the Gaza Strip, including 25 in jabalija and four in Chan Junis.
In the middle of this escalating violence, France's President Emmanuel Macron criticized the Israeli military operations and spoke of a devastating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Macron emphasized that France acknowledges the right of Israel on defense, but does not see the bombing as a solution to the conflict. UN-Hilfskoordinator Tom Fletcher also commented and described Israel's plan for the distribution of relief goods in the Gaza Strip as a "cynical distraction" and emphasized the blocked humanitarian aid.new offensive announced
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced that a new offensive against the Hamas will begin “in the coming days” with the aim of smashing the group and removing remaining hostages. Netanyahu assured that Israel would go "to the end" in the Gaza War and announced that a temporary ceasefire is conceivable, but was not a permanent end of the fights in sight. To prepare this offensive, Israel mobilizes tens of thousands of reservists. At the same time, Israeli negotiators in Qatar are to lead new negotiations on an ceasefire.
The situation further tightened because Hamas rejected a disarmed by Israel and called for an end to the Gaza War as a condition for the release of hostages. At night, Israel's air strikes were reported to Jabalija and two hospitals in the Gaza Strip, which led to numerous victims. The Israeli army justified the attacks with the assertion that Hamas abuse hospitals for military purposes.
Humanitarian crisis and international reactions
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has worsened considerably in the past few months. At least 2.1 million Palestinians are threatened with starvation due to a lack of humanitarian aid. The UN Nothilf coordinator warned of a possible "genocide" and urgently called for help for the suffering civilian population. The number of dead on the Palestinian side is around 36,000, many of them uninvolved civilians by May 2024.
These escalations are part of a conflict that is deeply rooted in history. The events of October 7, 2023, in which Hamas committed atrocities, led to an increased military reaction of Israel and prompted many to perceive events as a pogrom. The conflict between Israel and Palestinians goes back to territorial and ethnic national demands, which are extended to the 19th century and are repeatedly rejected by various wars and intifadas.
The international community, including the USA, the EU and Arab countries, continues to be diplomatic for de -escalation and humanitarian improvements in the Gaza Strip. In view of the tragic location, however, the tensions in the Middle East are increasing more and more, while the search for a permanent solution is still unsuccessful.
