Labor market in the district of Euskirchen: increase in unemployment and vacancies
The labor market in the district of Euskirchen shows itself in a worrying situation compared to the previous year. In August 2023, 6096 people were still unemployed, but a year later this number increased to 6603, an increase of 507 people. The number of open spots fell from 2106 to 1663, which corresponds to a decline of 443 positions. This development raises questions and shows that the problems on the job market could be deeper.
The latest data from the Employment Agency show that at the end of August 166, unemployed were registered more than in July. Of the 1195 people who reported unemployed in August, that was 46 less than in the previous month. At the same time, 1026 people ended their unemployment, which is 31 less than in July. These numbers throw a light on the fact that despite an increase in the number of unemployment, there is also a certain mobility in the statistics that cannot be interpreted so easily.
further developments on the job market
The employment agency has classified the increase in unemployment number in the last holiday month as a seasonal development, but the situation remains critical. Ralf Holtkötter, the chairman of the management of the Brühl employment agency, is optimistic that the figures in September could decrease because many young people start their vocational training at the beginning of the school year. The educational sector could thus briefly bring relief and at least temporarily reduce unemployment.
Although the number of vacancies has dropped considerably in recent months, Holtkötter still sees a high need for qualified workers. Compared to the previous year, the vacancies are 235 less, and there is also a decline of 52 against July. Nevertheless, Holtkötter emphasizes that there are good perspectives for unemployed people with the right qualifications, especially in the sectors such as the manufacturing business, construction and in the social and health sector.
The unemployment rate in the Euskirchen district has also changed. It rose by 0.1 percentage points to 6.1 percent. In August 2023, this quota was still 5.7 percent. This indicates that the tension on the labor market increases and the challenges for the employment agency have increased.
labor market situation according to municipalities
A look at the individual municipalities of the Euskirchen district illustrates the different developments. The following figures were recorded at the end of August 2023:
- district of Euskirchen: 6603 unemployed/1663 Open places
- Bad Münstereifel: 452 unemployed/90 Open spots
- Blankenheim: 290 unemployed/54 Open places
- dahlem: 121 unemployed/26 open spots
- euskirchen: 2539 unemployed/638 Open places
- Hellenthal: 241 unemployed/69 Open spots
- Kall: 353 unemployed/91 Open spots
- mechernich: 792 unemployed/194 Open places
- nettersheim: 170 unemployed/60 vacancies
- Schleiden: 514 unemployed/94 Open places
- Weilerswist: 509 unemployed/129 Open places
- zülpich: 622 unemployed/218 Open places
- Kreis Düren: 11113 unemployed/1499 Open places
- Heimbach: 147 unemployed/15 vacancies
These numbers underline the different distribution of unemployment and the open spots in the different municipalities. While some areas are affected by higher unemployment, there are fewer unemployed in other parts of the circle, but also fewer places that are available. The agency's efforts must now be aimed at counteracting these imbalances and specifically promoting the qualifications of the job seekers.
