Drama over the clouds: hot air balloon catches fire in Zülpich!

In an incident on Saturday in Zülpich, a hot air balloon got into an overland power line, while the pilot tried to land on a field near Irnicher Straße. Fortunately, all eight occupants of the balloon remained unharmed. After the balloon had touched the ground, a gust of wind made sure that it was blown into the power line and finally went up in flames.

The fire brigade was quickly on hand and was able to extinguish the fire, but the balloon was completely destroyed, which resulted in an estimated damage of around 100,000 euros.
