Joyride The Musical: A nostalgic experience in Malmö
Malmö, Sweden-an exciting chapter is opened for all fans of the legendary pop duo Roxette. This Friday evening, the musical “Joyride The Musical” celebrated its world premiere in the Malmö opera. This staging will be shown on stage by the end of April 2025 and promises a nostalgic journey through the musical world of Roxette.
The creators of the musical promise visitors a feel-good experience that offers an “unforgettable roller coaster ride” with joy and humor. With spectacular performances, happy hits and powerful ballads that skilfully capture the time of Roxette, the musical aims to put the viewers back into the 90s.
the music and history
Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, the creative minds behind Roxette, have celebrated success with unforgettable classics such as “The Look”, “Listen to Your Heart” and “It must have be love” worldwide. Fredriksson, who died in 2019 at the age of 61 after a long fight against cancer, leaves an impressive musical heritage. Your partner Gessle, who is still active, has also played a role in the development of the musical.
In an interesting interview with TV4 Gessle announced that the action of the musical is based on the book “Got You Back” by Jane Fellon. It is about a triangular drama that is focused on infidelity and relationship problems - "a threesome at a distance", as he put it. Gessle is convinced that the songs of Roxette are ideal for musical production, and his gut feeling does not seem to have deceived him.
The premiere enjoyed a sold -out house, as did many of the upcoming ideas in the coming weeks. It is particularly noteworthy that the musical itself is performed in Swedish, while the popular songs from Roxette are performed in the original language.
The musical is not only a tribute to the music of Roxette, but also a shop window of fashion and style of the 90s, which for many embody a nostalgic time. Visitors can look forward to an entertaining experience that appeals to both the old fans of the band and inspires new generations for the catchy melodies.
