Dispute over gravel: couple defends themselves against the city of Euskirchen!
An apparently harmless bunch of gravel has triggered a tangible argument between a resident couple and the city administration in Euskirchen. Michael Schmitz and his wife Esmeralda had commented on the stones who have been in front of their house in the drainage channel for months. According to Schmitz, this situation has a considerable danger potential, since cars could spin the stones up when driving quickly. Despite their complaints to the city, there was no solution, and in a letter they were informed that they were responsible for cleaning the sidewalks because the urban sweeper was unable to remove the crowd.
The Schmitzes were amazed when they received the impending fine and the obligation to clean, although the stones are not on the sidewalk. They complained that they are held responsible for an area for which the city collects fees. After consulting the editor, treasurer Klaus Schmitz accepted the problem and admitted that the city was responsible for cleaning the parking space. As a result, the spouses were to be released from the sidewalk cleaning obligation while the impending fine is withdrawn. This turn ensures relief among those affected, who can now breathe.
