E-bus brand in Elmshorn: Bahnhof remains closed until tomorrow

in Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein, there was a serious incident in the early afternoon when an e-bus caught fire in a railway underpass. The incident led to a large -scale standstill at Elmshorn station, an important hub for train traffic in the region.

As Mayor Volker Hatje (independent) confirmed, the bus was on a regular line when the driver misjudged the height of the underpass, which led to the development of the fire. The Elmshorn fire brigade immediately moved up with over 40 emergency services to fight the fire. The surrounding fire departments were also alerted because the affected bus had to be pulled out of the underpass before the extinguishing work could be completed. Fortunately, there were no injuries because all passengers could free themselves from the burning vehicle in good time.

rail traffic in difficulties

The fire is completely blocked by Elmshorn's train station, which has a significant impact on train traffic in Schleswig-Holstein. According to the authorities, traffic is massively affected. Travelers have to expect delays of up to 60 minutes, while replacement traffic has been set up by bus. Elmshorn is an important location for many travelers, and this interruption will severely restrict mobility in the region.

The following lines are particularly affected according to the railway: The regional express line RE6 between Westerland (Sylt) and Hamburg-Altona begins and ends temporarily in Itzehoe, while the lines RE7 and RE70, which lead from Hamburg Central Station to Kiel Hauptbahnhof and further to Flensburg, have to end temporarily in Neumünster.

further disorders in rail traffic

In addition to the problems caused by the bus fire, there were disturbances on the route between Elmshorn and Glückstadt due to damage to the overhead line. This technical disorder meant that trains could only drive on a track, which had led to further failures since noon. Although the damage to the overhead line is to be remedied since 3 p.m., the situation remains tense due to the blocking of the station. The trains only drive to the Herzhorn station in the Steinburg district, which also affects travelers in their planning.

Deutsche Bahn recommends travelers who travel from and to Hamburg to use the connection via Bad Oldesloe. For trips from and to Kiel, the train recommends considering the detour via Lübeck. Due to the unpredictable situations, it is advised to postpone unnecessary trips, since restrictions can also be expected on the following day.
