Forest fire risk in Potsdam: Fire brigade fights again for control
The fire brigade Potsdam was again alerted to a forest fire in the Ravensbergen on Thursday afternoon. This was confirmed by the professional defense through the social network X, formerly Twitter. The affected area near the small Ravensberg had already caught fire on Monday of the same week.
The renewed outbreak of the fire was favored by the persistently high temperatures and the winding wind. Such conditions create an ideal environment for forest fires, which leads to worrying situations in the area.
The extent of the fire
In the last fire fighting, three tank fire vehicles and 22 firefighters, both the professional fire brigade and volunteer fire brigades, were used. According to an employee of the control center, there were several embers who urgently had to be deleted. The fire brigade worked intensively on fighting the fire close to the ground, and the remaining extinguishing work in this popular Potsdam recreation area should last until late afternoon.
Already at the first fire in this area, which affected an area of around 50 by 50 meters, 40 firefighters from Potsdam and Mittelmark were deployed. These repeated fire events underline the critical forest fire warning level, which is currently in Potsdam and the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark.
The risk of forest fire in Brandenburg
not only in Potsdam, but also in the rest of Brandenburg, the forest fire stages are high to very high. So there was recently a large-scale deployment of the fire brigade near the holiday and leisure resort "Tropical Islands" in southern Brandenburg, where three hectares of forest were affected and the fire could be successfully deleted in the late evening.
The weather forecasts indicate that the maximum temperatures in the region will continue to be around 30 degrees Celsius. Some clouds and local showers and thunderstorms can be expected at night, but there is a risk of forest fires. Even after the nightly cooling, the risk of fire does not decrease significantly due to the persistently dry weather.
How the situation will develop remains to be seen, but the experiences of the past few days have certainly led the fire brigades in the region to be well positioned in order to react quickly and effectively to such emergencies. These repeated fires illustrate the challenges with which the fire brigades are confronted and the need for preventive measures for fire prevention in forest areas.
