Frankfurt: Pro-Palestine demo on the anniversary of the terrorist attack!
More than 1,000 participants gathered on Saturday in Frankfurt for a pro-Palestinian demonstration that took place despite an urban ban. The administrative court had decided that the ban could not be maintained, which led to a loud and emotional rally. The demonstrators moved through the city center with slogans such as "Palestine to victory" and posters pointing out the victims of the conflict. Some held pillows with blood -red spots to represent children killed and chanted provoking phrases against Israel.
The police were on site with a large contingent to ensure security and take care of criminal objects. During the elevator occurred occasionally incidents, including an arrest for egg throwing. The Hessian Interior Minister regretted regret about the decision of the courts that the ban left and emphasized that the police would act determined in the event of crimes. Critics, including the FDP parliamentary group, described the demonstration as a provocation, especially in view of the anniversary of the attack by Hamas on Israel.
The discussion about the ban on meeting, however, does not end: the city tried to prevent the demonstration, but encountered legal hurdles. The administrative court emphasized that the anniversary could not be used as a sole reason for a ban, which led to intensive debates on the right to freedom of assembly.
