art and community in the Griesheim district
The opening of the new makeshift bridge at the Griesheim train station not only offers a practical solution for passers -by, but also serves as a symbol for community and artistic expression. On July 29, 2024, an official inauguration took place, in which various representatives of the city and Deutsche Bahn came together.
special challenges and solutions
The bridge became necessary after the construction of the original pedestrian facility was delayed due to massive protests by the citizens. Under the direction of Pastor Daniela von Schoeler, active citizens like Ursula Schmidt from the Bahnhof initiative organized committed campaigns to raise her voice.
Mayor Mike Josef (SPD) expressed his relief about compliance with the schedule and thanked the community for her "constructive cooperation". The bridge, which is over seven meters high, offers access via the railway tracks and is expected to remain in operation for at least five years.a bridge for everyone: accessibility in the focus
With a width of 2.5 meters, the makeshift bridge enables a simultaneous foot and cycling traffic, which is particularly important because the tunnel remains closed to cyclists. The ramps are designed with a slope of only eight percent, which makes them barrier -free. This decision takes into account various user groups, from families with strollers to cyclists and people with mobility disabilities.
The economic aspects
The costs for the "provisional to years" amount to around five million euros, a considerable but necessary investment effort for the city of Frankfurt. Together with the ramps, the users rise to a height that is essential for crossing the tracks.
artistic bridge: a symbol of cooperation
The opening ceremony also included a creative aspect: the artist Nikolaus Nessler, based in Griesheim, invited those present to an interactive “bridge game”. Here, the participants should combine puzzle parts in order to underline the connecting element of the new bridge. This not only promotes dialogue with each other, but also shows how art can help strengthen social togetherness.
outlook for future projects
As Mobility Director Wolfgang Siefert (Greens) announced, the presentation of a feasibility study for the permanent replacement of the Omega Bridge is due after the summer holidays. The joint coordination with the local advisory board 6 is intended to accompany further developments and create transparency. The diversion concept for the upcoming construction work is also important. These will be necessary in order to provide long -term solutions in the south of Griesheim.
The newly opened makeshift bridge is therefore not only a practical building, but also a step towards an active and solidarity community that jointly occurs for improvements in the district.
