Disappointment about Barnier: Protests against Macron in the Dordogne

In the Dordogne, around 600 people demonstrated against the latest political developments in France. Although the weather was uncomfortable, the demonstrators met to express their displeasure about the nomination of Michel Barnier as Prime Minister. 370 people gathered in Périgueux, while about 230 demonstrated in Bergerac.

The protest was organized by youth organizations and left -wing parties. A 25-year-old participant named Emeline said: "It was sixty days ago that we were waiting for an answer, and the appointment of Michel Barnier is the icing on the cake." She criticized the government under Emmanuel Macron and emphasized that many had stood behind the Republican alliance, only to be disappointed: "We feel betrayed." Emeline pointed out that many who voted for macronistic candidates now had the feeling that their commitment had nothing.

The voices of the demonstrators

Another participant, Rosa, who had traveled from Agonac, kept a large sign with the inscription "Michel Barnier, Républicain National". It was deeply disappointed with political development. "It is a signal to the youth: don't choose because it has no point," she emphasized. Her words reflect the feeling of many that the voice of voters is ignored.

The protest also offered a platform for several political personalities that joined the demonstrators. Jacques Auzou, the President of the Agglomeration Périgueux, the former Nupès MP Pascale Martin and MP Sébastien Peytavie from the Sarladais were present. Environmental politicians and members of the communist party as well as La France Insoumise (LFI) were also represented. Surprisingly, the absence of the Parti Socialiste, which was apparently not part of the protest.

The events in the Dordogne represent a clear disapproval of the current government. Many see the appointment Barnier as an unfortunate decision that undermines confidence in the democratic processes. Thus, this protest could show a further expression of political dissatisfaction in a France that is located at a turning point.
