Freiburg's environmental zone falls! New air quality celebrated by 2025!

In the spring of 2025, the environmental zone in Freiburg will be lifted! The Freiburg regional council has announced that despite this measure, the speed limit of 30 km/h remains in the passage through the town for noise protection reasons. From October 28, the plan draft will be designed for the fourth update of the air pollution control plan for one month for public inspection.

Air quality in Freiburg has improved in the past few years, with a decline in nitrogen dioxide content to only 25 micrograms per cubic meter in 2023. This positive development enables the environmental zone to be abolished, according to the RP, which acts in accordance with the Baden-Württemberg Transport Ministry. The Tempo 30 regulation, which has already been introduced in 2018, remains, but no longer as a measure of the air purity, but for noise reduction.
