Life in Berchtesgaden: An affordable option for a few

The picturesque region of Berchtesgaden was a popular tourism hotspot for a long time. But for many locals, life there becomes increasingly priceless. Karin Koll, a 53-year-old nurse recently decided to leave her hometown with her husband. The rising rents and the limited living space prompted you to move to Lower Bavaria.

In Berchtesgaden, the living situation has become problematic. The enormous demand and the tight supply have led to a strong increase in rents. Many locals, including Karin Koll, have difficulty finding affordable living space. The situation also tightened when Koll was forced to rent an apartment without a balcony and garden at an affordable price.

The move to Lower Bavaria was the solution for Koll. There she found a suitable home at an acceptable rental price. The 90 -square -meter semi -detached house with a 900 square meter garden offered her an improved quality of life compared to Berchtesgaden. In addition, the cost of living in Freyung-Grafenau is significantly lower than in the tourist Berchtesgaden.

The decision to leave Berchtesgaden also had negative effects. Koll regrets the loss of the familiar environment and contact with her former neighbors. Nevertheless, it is optimistic and enjoys life in Lower Bavaria. The calm and closeness to nature of the new area even gave her the opportunity to make her hunting license - something that she would never have found in Berchtesgaden.

The rising rents and the emigration of nurses like Karin Koll are signs of a bigger problem in Berchtesgaden. If the normal workers who form the heart of the community can no longer afford life in the region, the place, its social structure and identity threaten to lose. It is therefore urgently needed that the responsible measures take the living situation for all population groups affordable.
