Friedrichshafen: Car -free minibuses Test operation of the future!
In Friedrichshafen, self -driving electric minibuses have been running in the test operation according to timetable since this week. The futuristic vehicles are part of the innovative Rabus project (real laboratory for automated bus operations in public transport in the city and in the country) and are now starting with passengers. "You can experience the local transport of tomorrow in Friedrichshafen," cheered city transport boss Magdalena Linnig.
The Rabus project is borne by a cooperation between city traffic Friedrichshafen, RAB, ZF, the research institute for motor and vehicle engines Stuttgart and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, with a generous funding of 14 million euros by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry. "We test automated and flexible mobility offers to find out how autonomous driving works on public roads and how it is accepted by passengers," emphasizes Linnig. In addition to Friedrichshafen, another Rabus-Reallabor in Mannheim runs, where the shuttles operate in a residential area. Further information can be found at www.zugsthalt.de .
