Dispute over Stromtrasse: Citizens threaten to complain in Bockhorn!

Bockhorn, Deutschland - In a joint letter, Siemtje Möller (MdB) and Olaf Lies (Economic Minister, both SPD) asked the network operator Tennet to find a mutually acceptable solution for the planned 380 kV-Stromtrasse Wico2 (Wilhelmshaven2 to Conneforde). The course of the route affects the residential area "Am jungle" in Bockhorn, where residents have expressed concerns. Möller and Lies react to the demands of the CDU MP Anne Janssen (MdB) and Katharina Jensen (MDL) after an earth cabling.

The SPD politicians suggest that four electricity pylons, which adjoin the residential area, to move further west to Neuchâtel wood. According to Möller and Lies, the network expansion is of great importance for the energy transition, but they understand the concerns of the residents. At the federal level, they had already campaigned for earth cabling, but without success. They ask Tennet to check the proposal to relocate the masts and to look for the dialogue with the municipality and the affected residents.

Litigation and civil protest

The residents have signaled that they are ready to work constructively on a solution, but if they threaten to legal steps, they should be recorded. A common working group between Tennet, the district of Friesland and the state development authority had checked alternative solutions, but it came to the conclusion that only the original planning could be implemented legally. This decision caused anger with the citizens and political bodies.

The citizens' initiative "Bockhorn under high voltage" is already preparing for a lawsuit, while the municipality of Bockhorn is also considering legal steps against route construction.

parallel to developments in Bockhorn, Tennet has published current plans for the new Jurials management online. This 380 kV line is to replace the existing 220 kV current line and will have a length of around 170 kilometers. The visualizations, photos, aerial photos and 360-degree representations are available in the project atlas. Around 60 positions along the new line were photographed, with drones being used to document substation and cable transition systems.

The 360-degree images allow a comparison of the areas before and after construction. Further photos are planned for early summer 2025. The old route and the planned new route can be represented in a 3D card. The new substation in Rottenburg an der Laaber is visualized, but the exact course of the lines has not yet been determined. The new jurisprudence is scheduled to go into operation in 2031 and is considered central to the security of supply and stability of the Bavarian power grid.

The renovation is intended to increase the transmission capacity for the growing electricity requirements in Middle Franconia and Lower Bavaria, but there is resistance in the affected places and communities against the new course of the route. After commissioning the new management, the dismantling of the old jurial management is planned.
