Violence at the Jerusalemplatz: 38-year-old again condemned

A terrifying act of violence shaked Fulda and raises questions about security in the city. A 38-year-old man who had already been convicted of manslaughter is back on trial and is held responsible for his role in brutal assault. The punishment for his latest offenses was imposed on August 27 at the Fulda District Court. There the court found clearer words for what happened on a sunny day in February 2023 in the Jerusalemplatz.

The 38-year-old was already in the focus of the judiciary in the spring of this year after he was accused of shoting a friend in a previous incident. This judgment is not yet final because the defense has been revised. But now there is another criminal matter.

brutal assault in the Jerusalemplatz

According to the police investigations, the accused is said to have not traded alone. Together with two other men, he is said to have attacked a 51-year-old man at the Jerusalemplatz on the night of February 17th. The attack was brutal: the attackers hit and entered her lying victim. According to the court, the victim had suffered serious injuries, including rib breaks and a hematoma that concerned both the eye socket and the face.

The court found that the 38-year-old had acted out of jealousy. The reason for this was an apparently harmless incident: a ten-euro voucher that a friend of his girlfriend had given on Valentine's Day. Judge Ulrich Jahn described the crime as "sneaky", since the accused babled his adversary with a meeting in a supposedly friendly atmosphere, only to face him brutally. This anticipation of violence shows the abysmal motif of the revenge, which should determine the attack.

At the negotiation, the accused partly confessed their deeds. One of the co -accused admitted that he had put several punches of the victim, while the other only joined one step. The main defendant, on the other hand, tried to change his motives: he stated that he had previously observed the victim in the sexual abuse of his daughter. However, this statement found no belief in the judges.

penalties and repentance

The verdict was clearly out of the question: the 38-year-old received a prison sentence of two years and six months. His accomplice, a 42-year-old man, was sentenced to one year on probation. Judge Jahn largely followed the plea of prosecutor Andreas Hellmich, who underlined the severity of the act of violence. While the older one showed a certain degree of repentance in the court and steered, the 38-year-old agreed to his statements: "He received what he deserves. I regret nothing."

This judgment has not yet been finalized because the accused have the opportunity to appeal against the judgment. Nevertheless, the question of society remains present: What proportions can human behavior accept if jealousy and reactionary violence come to light in such a threatening form? The background of these brutal attack throw a bright light on interpersonal relationships in our society.
