Heat wave on Lake Walchensee: Rescue forces in continuous use
The Isar Valley attracts numerous visitors on hot summer days, but this also brings some challenges for the local emergency services. During the past hot summer weekend, the emergency services were strongly challenged due to the record temperatures and the numerous day trippers, which underlines the importance of the seasonal preparations of the rescue units.
emergency services in full use
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, 20 members of the mountain rescue kit Krün experienced a particularly labor -intensive day. Numerous emergencies were reported at temperatures that favor many overexertions. For example, a man who collapsed on a circular route on the Barmsee had to be reanimated as quickly as possible. The members of the Krün-Wallgau Water Wacht were on hand and provided quick help, while the mountain rescue service supported. The man was safely brought to the nearest ambulance and transported to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic.
accident on the Geroldsee
The day did not only have this emergency. Shortly after the first assignment, a 37-year-old cyclist from Garmisch-Partenkirchen was treated after a fall on the Geroldsee. The courageous intervention of eyewitnesses and your partner could prevent worse things. This prompt first aid was crucial and shows how important civil courage is in emergencies.
variety of injuries from wasp stitch
The many stitches of wasps and bees that plague bathers were particularly problematic. "The aggressiveness of the insects was almost brutal in the heat," said Robert Müller, standby manager of the Wasserwacht Mittenwald. Fortunately, the injuries remained largely slight, since no allergic reactions occurred.
overload on the Walchensee
A hotspot of the missions was the Walchensee, which was overrun by excursions at the weekend. On Saturday there was the first situation that the water guard had to handle three missions at the same time. Here the members were particularly happy that some of them were present privately for swimming and could provide additional help.
health problems during the mountain tours
But not only the bathers needed support. A 64-year-old man suffered a circulatory collapse during his descent from a mountain tour. Due to dizziness and cramps, he immediately needed help. The cooperation between the various emergency services, including the mountain rescue service and the rescue helicopter, played a crucial role in the fast localization and care of the patient.
continued challenges
The large number of missions this weekend illustrates the challenges that the emergency services are facing in touristy regions. Bernhard Riesch, the on -call manager of the mountain rescue service, draws a sober conclusion: "We calculated with a high volume." To ensure the safety of all visitors, the consistent preparation and training of the emergency services is essential.
At the end of the day, the volunteers only completed their guard shortly before midnight and can therefore look back on an intensive but successful day. The Isar Valley once again shows how important it is to pay attention to your own safety when bathing and hiking and to recognize the importance of a well -trained rescue infrastructure.
