Stadtwald Gelsenkirchen-Buer: Historical Wall shines for the anniversary

Gelsenkirchen-Buer has made a remarkable progress with regard to the preservation of his historical heritage. After about a year of intensive construction work, the renovated wall at the entrance to the city forest, a protected monument, was recently completed. This renovation coincides with the 100th anniversary of the city forest, which was opened in 1924 and has been a popular place for relaxation and sporting activities since then.

Work on this listed wall started in August last year. In close cooperation with the responsible monument authorities, a specialized specialist company, commissioned by gels ends, carried out the restoration. Particular attention was paid to the details. The restorers initially removed the damaged plaster from the wall and remedied the structural damage to the building built from bricks. The wall even had to be rebuilt in heavily damaged areas.

complex challenges in renovation

One of the greatest challenges was the reconstruction of the pillar heads. Project manager Serhat Tek explained that the covers were carefully separated from the wall to lift them with a crane. A stonemason then restored the pillar heads in a hall. This precise work was crucial to preserve the uniqueness and historical value of the building.

The renovation also included a weather -related work break from November to April, which enabled the craftsmen to re -plaster the walls and restore the impressive expressionist decorations on the pillars. This focus on detail and craftsmanship shows how important the preservation of such historical sites is in order to keep the history and culture of a region alive.

An important part of the green infrastructure

The redesigned entrance to the city forest not only serves as an eye -catcher, but also has a deeper meaning for the city of Gelsenkirchen. The city forest is part of the Buerschen green belt and plays an important role in the horticultural history of the region as a garden monument. With the renovation of the wall, the importance of this park is underlined, which continues to be relaxed and natural experience for the numerous visitors.

In recent years, further measures to improve and maintain the city forest have been carried out. These include the establishment of a fitness course in 2020 and the renewed design of the two wooden pavilions at the end of 2022. The planting of 128 trees to reforest the avenue around the playground also shows the commitment of the city to promote and make the green infrastructure. <

A special Highlight of the renovation is highlighted on the day of the open monument, which takes place on Sunday, September 8th. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., representatives of the commissioned architecture firm are available for explanations and give interested citizens insight into the work carried out.

These initiatives for the care of historical sites and to promote recreational facilities show how important it is to preserve and maintain the cultural heritage and the natural resources of a city. The city forest will continue to remain an important place for the community in the future, which generations of visitors enjoy.
