Ostrings, Gelsenkirchen, Deutschland - in Gelsenkirchen there was a dangerous incident on Wednesday evening when an S-Bahn collided with a tree trunk that had been deliberately put on the tracks. The incident happened around 5:55 p.m. on the route between Gladbeck West and Recklinghausen. The driver was traveling at 80-90 km/h when he noticed the approximately one meter long and 20 cm thick trunk too late. Fortunately, the approximately 110 passengers remained unharmed, but had to be evacuated in Herne after the impact.
The collision led to massive disorders in rail traffic: a total of 20 trains were up to 840 minutes delay, there were six sub -failures and twelve detours. The federal police have initiated an investigation into the rail traffic for the dangerous intervention and asks witnesses for information on the unknown perpetrators who were in the Ostring area on October 30th.
