On Sunday, September 1st, FC Schalke 04 and 1. FC Köln are facing each other in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen as part of the fourth matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga. This meeting is eagerly awaited, but the Cologne residents have personnel challenges before the duel, who throw a shadow on their preparation.

Schalke 04, after a mixed start of the season with four points from three games, was most recently able to achieve a 2-2 draw in Magdeburg. In contrast, the 1. FC Köln celebrated an impressive 5-0 win against the bottom of the table in Eintracht Braunschweig. Despite these differences in the last achievements, both teams are not entirely satisfied with their course of the season and urgently need points.

Personnel worries at Cologne

While FC Schalke 04 strengthens Ron Schallenberg, who was missing because of a lock in Magdeburg, it looks more complicated by the Cologne. Captain Timo Hübers had to cancel the training due to a cold and thus missed important units in preparation. A possible replacement for him could be the U23 defender Neo Telle, who wants to prove himself in the first team.

The focus is also on Mark Uth, a former Schalke professional who played for the royal blue between 2018 and 2021. Uth, who was currently unable to participate in training because of a strain, was missing in the last encounters against Schalke and has not been able to perform against his ex-club since his farewell in the summer of 2021. His change was accompanied by the Schalke fans, who have to think back to the turbulent scenes after the game against Bielefeld, were harassed as players' players.

The possible list of Schalke is like this: Heekeren in the goal, Gantenbein, Cisse, Schallenberg and Murkin in defense, followed by Bachmann and Seguin in midfield as well as Hamache, Karaman, Mohr and Sylla on the offensive. The Cologne team also offered a powerful team: Urbig in the goal, Thielmann, Hübers, Pauli and Paqarada in defense, Martel in midfield and Ljubicic, Huseinbasic, Maina as well as Downs and Lemperle in the attack series.
