Discover the library of things: versatility in Koblenz
In the almost 200,000 inhabitant city of Koblenz, the city library has introduced an innovative concept: the library of things. This shows how the trend of sharing and lending in today's society continues to establish itself. The project not only promotes conscious consumption, but also sustainable use of resources.
from sports to technology to household
The new library offers an impressive selection of around 100 objects from different categories. This includes sporting goods such as footballs, household appliances such as sewing machines and even technical devices such as record players. This diversity enables users to borrow things that they only need occasionally without having to deal with the purchase and storage.
sustainability in focus
The library of things pursues the goal of protecting the environment by enabling users to try out products before buying them. "Many parents want to test whether their children are interested in a toy before they buy it," explains Thomas Koch, the deputy library manager. In addition, objects that are rarely used as tools, which often dust unused in cupboards, can be more easily provided, which can reduce the amount of garbage.
an access for everyone over 18
There are certain requirements for all interested parties. In order to be able to borrow an object, users must be at least 18 years old and have a valid library ID, which costs 22 euros annually (reduced 11 euros). The loan is uncomplicated - only the return after 28 days without extension could cause additional costs.
a clear example of the trend of sharing
Similar initiatives have already been successfully established in other cities. This practice, also known as "Sharing Economy", is growing increasingly and reflects people's need to use resources more efficiently. The Koblenz city library shows that an environmentally conscious lifestyle can also be implemented in everyday life.
open ears for user requests
Another important aspect of the library of things is the possibility for users to contribute suggestions for new loan hobs. This participation shows that the city library is a lively institution that reacts to the needs of the community. With such a flexible structure, the library plans to constantly expand the offer and to adapt to the interests of the citizens.
The project not only represents a great resource for the city of Koblenz, but also inspires citizens to deal with their consumption behavior more consciously and to protect the environment - an important step into a sustainable future.
