Helping hand in Würzburg: The project Welcome to Würzburg enables refugees the way through the German government jungle

new Project makes it easier to start in Würzburg

In Würzburg there is an innovative project that helps refugees to find their way around the German government jungle. The project was launched under the name "New Horizons" in order to offer newcomers to practical support. This initiative is coordinated by the “Together together” association, which is committed to the integration of migrants.

support from committed helpers

The project "New Horizonte" has brought together a group of committed volunteers, including students, pensioners and people with a migration background. These helpers accompany the refugees with important authorities, visits to the doctor and other dates. There are currently 45 language and cultural agents available for 25 different languages, whereby the demand for certain languages such as Persian, Tigrinya and Pashtu is particularly high. To do justice to this, telephone translations are also offered if there are no language mediators available.

financing and future prospects

The “New Horizons” project is mainly financed by donations and public subsidies. Around 7000 euros are needed annually to cover the costs. The future of the project depends on the continuous financial support because it is a project -based initiative.

The support from the language and cultural mediators has a significant influence on the newcomers in Würzburg. Without this help, it would be almost impossible for many of them to find their way around their new living environment. The helpers are a valuable companion who shows understanding of their language and culture and thus facilitates the start in their new homeland.
