Joachim Herrmann: Bavaria's border police should be increasingly against migration in the future
Bayern's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) presented the half -year balance of the border police and emphasizes the increased struggle against illegal migration and the associated problems. In his speech, he explained that the border police were somewhat less confronted this year with 34,478 processes than in the same period last year, where 36,710 cases were still processed. Despite the decline, the balance sheet shows that the border police still have significant investigation.
The police showed increased efficiency, especially with regard to control at the borders to Austria and the Czech Republic as well as at the airports in Nuremberg and Memmingen, with a successfully identified case. These figures have dropped compared to the 14,973 incidents in the previous year, which can be attributed to various factors, including the changes in the law to legalize cannabis in Germany. This led to a significantly sunken arcade of drug crime, the cases of which were reduced from 2,701 in the previous year 2023 to 1,609
expansion of the border police
Herrmann announced a significant expansion of the Bavarian border police. By 2028, the positions are to be increased to a total of 1,500 in order to intensify the control measures at the limits. This decision is in line with close cooperation between the Bavarian and the Federal Police.
Another important point in Herrmann's presentation was the significant decrease in unauthorized entry. The Bavarian border officials have already recorded 888 entries from Austria this year, compared to 1,281 in the previous year. The number of arrested smugglers has also dropped from 160 to 104. These developments reflect the nationwide trend, as Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) noted, which reported increased pressure on the security authorities through tightened punishments and more intensive controls.
demands for tightened measures
Despite these positive developments, Herrmann calls for a strange strategy to combat illegal migration. He emphasized that the measures announced by the Federal Government after the Solingen attack to contain migration not only would have to be implemented promptly, but also more expanded. One of his central demands is that the federal police should be authorized more to reject people at the internal limits, apply for asylum. Herrmann emphasized that the refugees on the German land borders would mainly come from safe third countries, which should support the need for these measures.
Herrmann received support from Bavaria's Minister of Justice Georg Eisenreich (CSU), who also referred to the continued high number of smuggling crime. Eisenreich described the ruthless methods of the smugglers, who were increasingly directed against the smell people and the police. As an example, he cited a tragic incident in October, in which seven people, including a child, died in a crowded minibus. Such incidents illustrate the urgency and the challenges that the authorities face when it comes to combating smuggling.
