Sometimes the way is the goal: travel stories from the train

In today's society, in which public space is often regarded as a personal retreat, an interesting dynamic manifests itself in public transport. An example of this becomes clear when you climb a train and meet the strangers who not only tell their stories, but also do so regardless of the environment.

The volume of the life stories

A trip by train can quickly become an acoustic performance, in which all passengers are involuntarily listeners. So it happened when a passenger got involved in a conversation that mercilessly confronted everyone present with personal anecdotes. It was about a variety of topics - from festivals from the past to bizarre memories and too familiar family quarries.

A look out of the window as an escape

The ruthlessness of this acoustic flood, many passengers were irritating. An attempt to escape the situation was undertaken by looking out of the window. A few birds on a meadow should offer a welcome distraction, but this little escape was also disturbed by the faulty bird determination. It turned out that the constant corrections of the two interlocutors created an additional dimension of the harassment.

The desire for silence

In a world in which noise is omnipresent, the need for peace grows. The train, overcrowded with passengers, hardly leaves room for restraint. The idea that other passengers are unintentionally and continuously molested with personal stories is not only important for the immediate affected person, but for the entire society. Why are we often unable to regulate our volume of votes when we communicate in public?

New ways of acceptance

The desire to escape from this situation as quickly as possible was noticeable, and the decision to change at an earlier stop was not difficult. This measure could be seen as a kind of self -protection in order to escape the lived reality of acoustics and undesirable listening. This shows a trend: More and more people are looking for retreat and their own privacy in transport?

at a time when individual freedom is valued and the desire for a certain silence grows in public, the question remains: How do we design our dealings with each other in such narrow rooms? Public transport could become a place of reflection if we learn to communicate more respectfully.
