New removal system: Dispose of organic waste properly from October in Wetzgau
The upcoming change in the organic waste system of the Ostalbkreis causes lively discussions among the residents. The introduction of biotons and trolleys not only changes waste disposal, but also demands responsibility and cooperation within the community.
New removal system brings changes
From October 1, 2024, the company's customers must dispose of their organic waste in special brown tons in the Ostalb district for waste management (GoA). The changeover affects all households in the Ostalb district, which ensures questions and uncertainties for many residents.
The role of property management
Erwin Lang, who works as a caretaker in an apartment building in Wetzgau, has experienced the effects of this new regulation up close. "Many residents spoke to me because they don't know exactly what to do," he says. In order to clarify the matters, he turned to Andreas Kohout from the K&M property management, who then had to send about 600 explanatory letters to the tenants. This shows how important orientation is through property management, especially in complex situations like this.
A switch to individual trolleys?
Kohout reports that in the apartment building in Wetzgau and in other properties, many tenants change to individual trolleys, which brings a significant change in waste management. Several residents order their own trolley to get the desired service. According to estimates, around 75 percent of residents will in future dispose of their organic waste via trolleys, while only about 25 percent use community tonnes.
Sustainability and responsibility in focus
The Goa emphasizes that organic waste does not belong to the residual waste because it is burned. Instead, organic waste should be valued because it can be used for both biogas and compost. This awareness of sustainable practices helps to protect the environment and protect resources.
challenges with paper and care
The switch to paper bags for caretaker raises concerns about the care of the biotons. "Cleaning becomes more complex because the paper bags can absorb water," he says. This could lead to the fact that it becomes unsanitary in the community bins, which could not only burden the residents but also the environment.
Important information for residents
The GoA has provided a number of information that is relevant to all residents. The new brown biotons and trolleys will be distributed until August 9th. From October 1st, the regular emptying, which is free of charge, begins. Residents who have not yet ordered a container can continue to do so.
future prospects for the Ostalbkreis
The introduction of the new biotons and trolleys is a significant step towards a more environmentally friendly waste management in the Ostalb district. However, the cooperation between the residents in garbage communities will be decisive in order to successfully implement the innovations. The challenge is to inform the residents and motivate them to actively participate in the waste separation and the care of their waste disposal containers.
