Study revealed: Majority of the population in 15 countries victims of cybercrime
The effects of cyber attacks on society
In today's digital world, cyber attacks are unfortunately no longer uncommon. An international survey, carried out by Statista on behalf of a DAX group, showed that more than half of the population (57%) has already become the victim of online crime in 15 countries. These forms of crime include computer viruses, online fraud, identity theft and the theft of personal data. These figures make it clear that cybercrime is a serious problem for society.
Germany in focus
The survey results show clear differences between the countries. For example, while in Japan, only 28% of the population specifies that they have become victims of cyber attacks, this value in Germany is only 38%. Germany thus occupies tenth place in the list of 15 countries. In comparison, 80% of the Indian population feel worried about cyber attacks, while the Dutch are least worried with 27%.
the concern about cybercrime
The survey also shows that the fear of cyber attacks is widespread internationally. On average, 53% of those surveyed stated that they were concerned or even very concerned about possible attacks. These figures illustrate how important it is to strengthen cyber security and to clarify the population about potential threats.
number of unreported figures and damage
experts estimate that due to the high number of unreported cases, the actual damage caused by cybercrime are far higher. Most perpetrators remain undetected and the damage increases from year to year. It is therefore of crucial importance to take measures to prevent online crime and to intensify the cooperation between authorities and companies.
