Maintain Amaryllis correctly: This is how your knight star blooms next winter!
The Amaryllis, also known as a knight's star or scientifically classified as a hip astrum, is a real spectacle in every home. Your radiant flowers in strong red or elegant white are particularly popular with Christmas time. Many people bring the plant to their apartments in November and say goodbye to it as soon as the flowers fade. But this lovable botanist has much more to offer - with the right care you can even bring the amaryllis over the summer and give it to bloom several times.
In order to keep the amaryllis in top shape during the summer months, you should consider some important care steps. The plant goes through various growth phases over the course of the year, starting with a magnificent flower in winter, followed by active growth in spring and summer. From August, however, a decisive rest phase begins, which is essential for the subsequent flowering in winter. Anyone who is currently not dealing intensively with care could be faced with the challenge that the shy plant does not produce flowers, but only leaves.
care in the resting phase
The key to a long flowering period in winter lies in the careful care of the amaryllis in the rest period. This starts from August and can continue until the end of November or early December. It is important that you drastically reduce the casting and fertilizers from this point on. Instead, the plant should be placed in a dark, cool room to treat it to the necessary relaxation.
In February after the flowers are withered, cut them off. The stem will only be removed when it is completely dried. During this time, the Amaryllis remains well developed thanks to regular watering and the first fertilizer. Narrow green leaves are the only remnants of the flower.
From March to July it is time to pour the Amaryllis regularly and place in a warm place. If the risk of frost has passed, the plant can even stay in a shady place outdoors. Water should be regular in this phase, and fertilizers are announced every two to three weeks, while the next flowering buds are already slumbering in the onion.
correct preparation for the next flower
In the months of September and October, you can then cut off the dried leaves of the amaryllis and prepare for the upcoming flower. November is the highlight of the preparations: Now the Amaryllis is repotted. Use high -quality, permeable soil. Make sure that the pot is not chosen too large so that the roots can develop well.
By the way, when the amaryllis forms brutzhiebel during growth, they can carefully remove them and plant it separately. However, these young onions take several years to develop blooming stems independently. A very special moment is waiting for you when the flower buds gently bloom after the rest phase - a real highlight for garden lovers!
With the right attention and care, you can not only give this magnificent plant an additional life, but also enjoy your beauty every year. Your amaryllis not only remains a seasonal highlight, but a permanently sparkling star in your flora!
