Anneröder Siedlung: Dilapidated Sparkasse leaves frustrated residents

The once flourishing Sparkassen branch on the Fasanenweg in Gießen became the symbol of standstill and disappointment in the Anneröder settlement. Residents always make jokes about the massive safe, which stands next to the dilapidated bank, in view of the particularly difficult sight of the area, which has been an active center of the community for decades and is now in a shocking state.

This problem was discussed last Saturday during a citizens' consultation in the Café Braun, to which Mayor Frank-Tilo Becher had invited. The disappointment of the citizens regarding the unused property was heard from many voices. A planned building of an apartment building would have been a significant improvement for the neighborhood, but the current developments bring even more uncertainty.

The construction project in the waiting loop

Originally, the plans for the construction of a four and a half -storey house had already started speed in 2021 when a Gießen real estate entrepreneur acquired the property. This development seemed to bring a ray of hope to the dreary location of the Anneröder settlement, but had been struggling with numerous delays ever since. The building permit granted has now gone out, as the city spokeswoman Claudia Boje expressed on the subject. She referred to the municipal building authority and made it clear that no new project was currently being presented. This means that the ruins of the former Sparkassen branch and the uncertainty will continue for the residents for the time being.

The problems with the property are not new. The bank branch had already closed its doors in 2019, and since then has been repeatedly reported by new plans. But in fact very little happened. In the summer of 2022 the long -awaited start of construction seemed to be close, but since then nothing has changed again. The property remains as a kind of building ruin, while the city and its citizens are waiting in vain for progress.

In addition, it should be mentioned that the city of Gießen would have liked to see a new building on this property eight years ago. Unfortunately, the project was slowed down by the Sparkasse itself, in particular when decided, to tear down a modern EDEKA supermarket right next door and to build a new house with a bakery there. While the planning progressed in the neighborhood, the Sparkasse decided to finally close its branch in 2017 and then continue as a self -service body.

For the population in the Anneröder settlement, the condition of the former Sparkassen property not only brings with it an Estetic problem. The question is also raised how strongly such an unused property influences the development of the area. In the long term, such landmarks of standstill could become a serious obstacle to the attractiveness of this residential area.

While the residents continue to hope for changes, the site on the Fasanenweg remains a stuck point in the cityscape of Gießen. The dream of a new apartment building, like the demanding safe safe, seems to be trapped in the twilight state of waiting and hope. Much remains to be seen until the hope of revitalized life in the Anneröder settlement finally becomes reality again.
