A tree for every child: Taufgarten in Rheine grows with the community!
The parish in Rheine plans to include the baptisms and their families at their annual plant -resistant festivals in the future in order to promote a stronger connection to the community. Sarah Stöber explained that the invitation should focus on families in the baptismal garden in order to create a starting point among themselves and the community. The baptism garden, which currently offers space for up to 100 trees, is located on a part of the Eschendorf cemetery - an area that was originally reserved for an expansion of the cemetery, but is no longer needed due to change in burial culture.
The idea of developing the baptismal garden near the cemetery initially met with skepticism, but was quickly accepted as part of the life cycle of baptism and death. Ines Wellering from the parish council emphasizes that the cemetery is centrally located and many families already know it. The baptismal garden should also make the growth and development of the community visible. Whether the concept will succeed in the long run will be shown in the coming years, while the children are happy to watch what is happening while their parents plant the first trees.
