Opening of the new library at the Landgraf-Ludwigs-Gymnasium: A place of learning of the future

The long-awaited new library at the Landgraf-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Gießen has now opened. After a four -year construction phase, which was faced with a variety of challenges, the students can look forward to a modern, multifunctional space. Not only around 11,000 books are available here, but also contemporary learning and job opportunities.

The new library covers a wide range of literature, ranging from popular mangas such as "Jujutsu Kaisen" to classics such as "five friends" and Harry Potter. The facility was created by growing an entire floor and the construction of two building wings in wooden construction, which was placed on the existing school building. This construction not only ensures an appealing look, but also serves the acoustics to reduce hally noises.

modern learning rooms for everyone

The headmistress, Annette Pfannmüller, reported on the time before construction when the lessons of the natural sciences were severely affected. Now that all 1,250 students can benefit from the new premises, a new learning approach is being followed. Development department Astrid Eibelhausen from the SPD found that despite the spread of the Internet and digital media, printed books are still relevant and are well received by young people.

A wing of the new library is specially intended for younger students. There you can not only borrow books, but also research on computers and work in groups. The teacher Claudia Nehmer, who heads the library together with her colleague Simone Pfister, was pleased with the possibility of learning self -organized. Inviting seating with a large glass front also offer a view of the picturesque Gleiberg Castle and the Dünsberg.

In the other wing, a quiet learning room is provided to the upper level students. In addition to flexible bookshelves that can be pushed aside to make room for events, a large projector is available - ideal for presentations and film screenings. This interior design not only promotes learning, but also cooperation among the students.

The plans for the library go back to 2008, as the first discussions with the city. The construction then started in 2020, and the topping -out ceremony was celebrated in spring 2022. The headmistress remembers her beginnings in August 2022 when she was pointed out to the sooner opening.

The delays during the construction process were caused by difficulties in the delivery of materials and the need for an additional ventilation system that had to be installed. Jennifer Hofmann, Managing Director of the Architecture Bureau Grüninger Architects, explained that this would have caused serious time delays.

costs and financing

Despite the longer than planned construction period, the costs were relatively within the framework. The originally calculated costs of 3.4 million euros were in the end at 3.7 million euros. Of this sum, 1.8 million euros were provided from the federal government funding. The city is optimistic that this investment in education and infrastructure will have a positive effect on the school community.

The opening of the new library takes place on Thursday, August 29. From 6 p.m. all interested students, teachers and parents can take a look at the new premises and explore the modern learning opportunities.

The opening of a library is more than just a construction project; It puts the value of education in the foreground and offers space for creativity and individual learning.

The new library of the Landgraf-Ludwigs-Gymnasium could be seen as part of a wider trend in school architecture, which focuses on flexible learning rooms. In many educational institutions, the classic library space is increasingly being redesigned in order to meet the needs of modern learners. This development stands in the context of a grown consciousness for the importance of creative and collaborative learning in a digital world.

The understanding of how children and adolescents learn best has developed in recent years. Pedagogical concepts that promote self -organization and teamwork are increasingly being used. The LLG's new library takes these trends into account by creating spaces for individual and community forms of learning.

Integration of modern technologies

An outstanding feature of the new library is the integration of the latest technologies. With computer workplaces that can be used for research and processing projects, traditional learning equipment is combined with digital resources. Such approaches are essential in today's educational landscape, where digital competence is often required.

The library will offer various media that go beyond books. This includes e-books and learning software as well as digital learning aids that can be integrated into the lessons. These technologies open up new opportunities for the students to acquire and use knowledge.

integration of the community

When planning and implementing the new library, there was also close cooperation with the local community. This can be seen in the inclusion of wishes and needs that were brought up to school administration by both teachers and students. Such participatory processes are crucial for the long -term success of an educational area.

The opening of the library is not only an event for the school itself, but also for the entire neighborhood. Events that bring families and other interested parties to the educational institution and promote the exchange within the community are planned. The new library could also become a cultural meeting point.

Future view

The new premises of the Landgraf-Ludwigs-Gymnasium are a step into the future, but is not isolated in education, but is increasingly taking place in a social context. The development of the library provides an outlook on the many possibilities that modern school can offer and how these facilities must be equipped to meet the challenges of the next generation.

whether the LLG's new library can serve as a model for other schools remains to be seen, but it clearly shows in which direction the education could develop. The increasing importance of libraries as social and cultural centers is underpinned by the commitment of all those who are committed to education and exchange of knowledge.
