Frankfurt's first Tiny Forest: Green Treasure in the district!
In the north of Frankfurt, the first "Tiny Forest" is now thriving, a small forest that takes up an area of only 120 square meters. Over 350 different trees and shrubs, including Ahorn and oak, grow here according to a special concept that originally comes from Japan. This project was launched last year with the help of school children and requires minimal maintenance. The mini-forest should not only improve air quality, but also offer habitat for insects and birds. The city plans to create a total of three of these mini forests in areas by the next year in which the cooling of the microclimate is particularly important, as a spokeswoman for the environmental department revealed.
In Darmstadt there is already a "Tiny Forest" and the search for other areas is running, while Kassel currently wants to find suitable locations. Citizens are encouraged to participate in these initiatives and contribute to the greening of the city. The NABU Hessen supports the concept of mini forests and emphasizes its environmental education value. The goal is clear: more green in the cities, better microclimate and promotion of biodiversity.
