Care symposium in Gießen: A successful restart after 20 years!

A long forgotten tradition blooms again! The University Hospital Gießen-Marburg (UKGM) is finally the scene of a remarkable nursing ancestral after 20 years of break. Nursing director Judith Schäfer and a team of 23 outstanding employees have launched an event with a lot of commitment that not only brings nursing experts from the region, but also puts the job profile of the nursing staff into the spotlight.

The gentlemen of the nursing symposium, which took place in the impressive rooms of the medical teaching center of the Justus Liebig University, were able to inspire more than 115 participants! A brilliant comeback that revives the joy and passion for care. Judith Schäfer beams with enthusiasm and sums up euphorically: "The care has something to say!"

an impressively diverse exchange

The response to the symposium was consistently positive. The participants not only came from the clinics around Gießen, but also from Marburg, midwife practices, outpatient care and even geriatric nursing homes. This underlines the fact that nursing staff do much more than only working in hospitals. "Operation experiences that are often hidden are a crucial part of social responsibility," explains Schäfer.

"We often forget that what is a matter of course for us is extremely important for those in need of care!" Schäfer thus underlines the high status and the importance of the work that is done daily. A strong awareness of your own competence in nursing was also conveyed in the lecture by Prof. Angelika Zeglin, which suggested to introduce similar certification for nurses as for doctors and craftsmen. Schäfer was enthusiastic about this idea and would like to decorate the walls of your office with certificates in the future!

"We have to draw attention to what a great job we have and what is possible in it." These passionate words show Schäfer's commitment to present the job profile of nursing revolutionarily.

innovations and challenges

The symposium also illuminated the emotional and social skills that are essential for nurses. Markus Lotz spoke about resilience in nursing, a topic that put the needs of nurses in the foreground. In addition, the event presented touching topics such as child palliative care and grief support for parents of "star children".

Another highlight was the lecture by Prof. Antje-Britta Mörstedt on the "Generation Z", which countered the prejudices on the motivation of young adults. "We can learn a lot from each other," emphasized Schäfer in terms of their own experiences with the trainees.

To loosen up the long seating, the physiotherapists provided a fresh wind in the lecture hall with movement impulses, while the "clownd doctors" provided entertainment on the second day of the symposium with their unique performance. It quickly becomes clear that the next nursing symposium is already in the planning!
