Safe way to school for Biebertal's children: Traffic show shows solutions

In a significant initiative to improve school security, the Biebertal primary school in Rodheim launched a new mobility plan. The “local walk” for the traffic show, in which the district debt, Christopher Lipp and local politicians were involved, was carried out before the summer holidays. The aim was to evaluate the paths that the children travel to school from their perspective and to identify potential dangers. There are a total of 240 students at primary school, many are already on foot, bike or scooter to school.

The results show clear need for action: Parent stops should be at a distance of 150 to 200 meters to school in order to increase security and to equalize traffic in front of the school premises. In addition, many traffic crossings are dangerous for the children because vehicles do not stop on zebra crossings. An innovative program called "Better to school" is implemented here to find permanent solutions. The analysis, which also included children's surveys, shows that daily school routes not only have to be designed more safely, but also healthier. A bicycle project is already running and is very popular. The next steps to implement the measures are already planned and should further increase the security of the students, www.giessenerzeiger.de .
