Optimization of the traffic infrastructure in Gießen: Wider bridge is to relieve the city center
The city of Gießen is planning to renew the second railway bridge on Lahnstrasse and the widening of the street to remove bottlenecks and to keep heavy goods traffic away from the city center.
A long -term annoyance is to be remedied, and the city administration expects the traffic load in the city center to be significantly reduced after the construction work has been completed. With a planned long -distance bus station and a new bridge, future developments are supported that still have a grip on traffic.
A big step in this direction is the upcoming planning approval process, which provides for the renewal of the bridge with a two -lane expansion of the Lahnstrasse and elimination of the narrow point for late summer. The investments of a total of 6 million euros from the railway, federal, state and city underline the importance of this project.
The second railway bridge in Lahnstrasse was built in 1955, and the current plans for the expansion began in 2015. After the end of the procedure at the Gießen regional council, extensive construction work is planned for the years 2026 to 2029 to renew the bridge and to improve the inner city connection.
The construction work will undoubtedly lead to traffic impairments, but it is considered necessary to invest in the infrastructure to ensure mobility in the region in the long term. The discharge of the city center and the direct connection of the commercial area to the B49 are important goals that are to be achieved with the wider bridge.
The improvement of the transport infrastructure in Gießen shows that constant investments in the mobility of the population are necessary to eliminate bottlenecks and to ensure efficient traffic routing. The wider bridge in Lahnstrasse is therefore an important step towards an optimized traffic structure in Gießen.
