Customs campaign in Hesse: Minimum wage controls revealed the first violations

In a large -scale action to combat minimum wage violations, over 100 customs officers of the financial control of the undeclared work of the main customs office in Gießen in Hesse checked 88 employers yesterday. More than 270 employees were asked about their employment relationships. The exams included various industries, including laundries, hairdressers, cosmetic studios and catering businesses. Initial evidence of violations of the minimum wage, which is currently at EUR 12.41, were found in eight cases, said press spokeswoman Stephanie Auerswald.

In addition, several workers were found without the necessary work permits. In Gießen, two Vietnames were employed in a nail salon and a 24-year-old Indian in a fast food restaurant without papers. Two Georgians in the Lahn-Dill district also had to end their work in a barbershop. All concerned employees were temporarily arrested, and criminal proceedings were initiated against them and their employers. This nationwide focus test was part of a huge European campaign to combat undeclared work, in which over 3,300 customs officers in Germany were in use, supported by delegations from 20 EU countries according to information from www.presseportal.de .
