In the small community of Hoyerswerda, a series of thefts have made the residents on alert. Older people who become victims of brazen are particularly affected when shopping.

The local police department Görlitz recently informed about several cases of wallpocks, all of which took place while shopping. Last weekend, a 90-year-old woman in Bernsdorf was the victim of such theft when her wallet was stolen from her handbag in the shopping cart.

However, these incidents are not an isolated case. Similar thefts are also examined in the neighboring Brandenburg, especially in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. Last Thursday, two women in Ruhland and Calau were stolen while shopping. In Calau, a woman was distracted by a stranger who got involved in a conversation, while he stole her handbag unnoticed.

The increase in thefts while shopping is concerned about both the residents and the local authorities. It is urgently called for being particularly vigilant when shopping and not leaving valuables unattended. The police also ask for information from the population to quickly identify the perpetrators and prevent further thefts.
