Brühl celebrates variety: First Christopher Street Day on August 24th

In the city of Brühl there is a pioneering event that focuses on the importance of diversity and tolerance. On this day the first Christopher Street Day (CSD) is celebrated in Brühl, organized by a committed team consisting of Şirin Seitz, Julian Wortmann, Bo Divine (name changed) and Ida Görlitz.

The importance of visibility of the queer community

Events such as the CSD are of great importance, especially in smaller cities like Brühl. These events are crucial to make queer life visible and to promote social acceptance. "It is time that smaller municipalities also show that they recognize and support the diversity of their population," explains Wortmann. In contrast to large cities such as Cologne, where such celebrations are firmly established, the diversity in rural areas often remains hidden.

Memories of past events

In 2022, a similar event already took place in Kerpen-Horrem in the Rhein-Erft district. However, this event not only brought positive memories with it, but was also associated with challenges, such as negative reactions and insults. "But we cannot be discouraged by it," emphasizes Wortmann. The great encouragement that the Queere Stammtisch experiences in Brühl shows that there is an interest in such an event.

A historical day for Brühl and the surrounding area

The organizers expect around 500 participants for the move, which starts at 3 p.m. on Balthasar-Neumann-Platz. The train will move through the city and ends around 4 p.m. in front of the town hall on Uhlstrasse. A stage is set up there, on which speeches and live appearances will take place. "We want to show people that the Queere Community has rights and for this admission," said Görlitz.

A wide supporting program

There will be information stands and various actions from 1 p.m. to promote exchange. This interaction is an essential part of the event to raise awareness of the topics of the queer community. A final party event under the motto "Pride" will take place in the Bistro Hollywood from 8 p.m. The term "Pride" stands for the proud use of your own sexual identity and is a central element of the CSD movement.

Community support

The CSD in Brühl is not only supported by the organizers themselves, but also receives support from various initiatives and organizations. This includes the Brühl initiative for international understanding (BLFV), the alliance of action for strengthening democracy and anti -racism as well as other local groups. This broad support reveals the relevance of the event and shows that society is ready to stand up for inclusion and equality.

A sign of the future

Overall, the first CSD in Brühl is not only a festival of diversity, but also a strong sign against discrimination. The organizers hope that the event not only shows admission to the rights of the queer community, but also has a positive impact on the social climate in the Rhein-Erft district. A step in the right direction - for Brühl and beyond.
