Advances at the large construction site Meißner Straße: Current developments
The comprehensive construction work on Meißner Straße in Radebeul-Ost has attracted residents and passers-by for a year. On September 4, 2023, the conversions began to modernize the section in need of renovation of the main traffic axis. The city administration has now announced a possible date for the release of the construction site, but another construction site on the same road is already imminent.
The construction work in the second section of Meißner Strasse is currently in full swing. The new track infrastructure for tram line 4 is laid, while the construction workers carry out their tasks with a certain zeal. In addition to the track construction, the work on the road and the sidewalks are also visible. The southern footpath between Rathenau- and Hauptstraße has already been provided with a new patch, and the curbs on the road have been set correctly, reports the city administration.
progress and challenges
Meißner Straße extends over a section of around 785 meters, which has been extensively expanded for a year. Before the renovation, the trams could only laboriously drive over this part of the route at a speed of ten kilometers per hour, which impaired the security and efficiency of public transport. After completing the work, a speed of up to 50 kilometers per hour will be possible, which is significantly shortened the travel times.
The canal building and the installation of a new sewer have already been completed. Street drainage has also been successfully established, emphasizes the city spokeswoman Ute Leder. The tracks are currently laid eastwards, while the foundation is already being prepared for the western area. Unfortunately, passers -by must continue to run over gravel compared to new sidewalks. Despite the challenges, great emphasis is placed on progress that have been achieved so far.
The city administration expects a total duration of the construction work of around 14 months and announced the provisional completion date for early 2025 in the Official Journal. However, if the weather plays along and Peter gives the Radebeuler winegrowers a sunny time, the work could actually be completed at the end of November 2024. However, it remains uncertain whether unexpected weather -related delays will disturb the course.
further construction work in view In parallel to the ongoing work on Meißner Straße, further repair work on other sections has already been announced. Repairs on rails and switches were made last month, while in the spring the top asphalt layer between the White Roß and Paradiesstrasse was renewed. A letter from P+S Pflaster- und Straßenbau GmbH informs residents that the top asphalt layer between Eduard-Bilz-Straße and Schildenstraße will be renovated from 16 to September 27th. From September 23 to September 27th, these renovations will also be made in the direction of Coswig and Meißen.
For the town hall day on September 7 of this year, tours are also pending over the large construction site. On this day, the city offers two tours to give interested citizens insight into the construction progress. The first tour begins at 2 p.m., while the second starts at 4 p.m. at the fountain behind the old post.
