Happy exception - swimmer found alive in the Berzdorfer See

a living miracle at the Berzdorfer See

An extraordinary case occurred at Lake Berzdorfer when a hooded swimmer was found safely after an intensive search. The man was taken up by the local authorities on the northern beach of the lake on Sunday evening after he had apparently returned to his resting place on foot.

Originally, the man had climbed into the water on Sunday morning to swim from north to south, which corresponds to a distance of about 5 kilometers. His partner alerted the authorities when he did not reappear after four hours. A large deployment with the support of the water guard, water police and fire brigade was then started to find it.

The Berzdorfer See, south of Görlitz, extends over an area of 960 hectares and has developed into a popular local recreation area. The lake originally emerged from a former lignite mining and is now an important part of the regional leisure landscape.

The worried partner of the swimmer contacted the Saxon police on Saturday evening after her partner did not return to a bath in the lake. The alleged worship of the swimmer was indicated by the discovery of its water bottles nearby, which led to increased search measures. Despite the quiet weather on the north beach, the absence of the swimmer was reason to worry and mobilize the rescue workers.
