With AI to the anthem: Reichenbach shooters celebrate their new song

The Reichenbacher shooters can look forward to a new song that could serve as a hymn. Sebastian Schmidt, a teacher from Zittau, has created a melody in a remarkable project based on the folk metal genre and contains elements of bagpipes, drums and electric guitar. The special thing about it is that this song is not only from a human hand, but is also the result of artificial intelligence (AI). Titles such as "Steadfast in Reichenbach" arouse the curiosity of the shooters and the public.

"We are looking forward to the day when we can ceremoniously sound the title in the marquee," says the new website of the association. The more than five -minute piece not only offers musical entertainment, but also contributes to the club identity and could soon become a popular anthem for the shooters. A real "one-man song" that was created with a lot of technical know-how and creative suggestion from the AI.

The creative head behind the project

The 39-year-old Sebastian Schmidt, an enthusiastic historian of the Middle Ages and sports shooters, has created a combination of passion and technology with this idea. Initially, it was only a thought, which, however, became a reality due to its implementation and involvement of AI. Schmidt himself is the creative head behind the project, whereby the AI generated the texts, music and even the singing melody, which is interpreted by an artificial male voice, a deep bass voice.

What differentiates Schmidt from other shooters is his unconventional picture. At the shooting range, the teacher does not show himself in the typical shooting outfit, but brings a souvenir photo to a conversation, on which he is dressed in a knightly uniform. During his history in the shooting club, which spans about a decade, Schmidt never had his own firearms and was stationed with the Bundeswehr for 10 years before he returned to Oberlausitz.

Back in his homeland Schmidt now teaches computer science and community studies at a vocational school in Zittau. For him, the use of AI is not just a technical progress, but a sign of future pedagogical developments that he also wants to use in class.

A fascinating element of this project is the historical context associated with the shooting club. The "Privileged Schützengeinschaft (PSG) Reichenbach and the surrounding area" has its roots in the Middle Ages when the city was attacked by a mighty army during the Hussite wars. The association uses this rich history as the basis for the new hymn.

speed and efficiency through artificial intelligence

What many musicians often costs days or weeks, Sebastian Schmidt succeeded in a few hours. By using the AI programs GPT 3.5, Leonardo.ai and Udio, he was able to implement the musical ideas quickly. He fed the programs with certain key data and requirements for the music genre. This technology enabled the AI to develop a song that treats both historical and emotional issues such as home, fame and war and at the same time refers to existing monuments in Reichenbach.

The text may convey a dark mood, but it reflects the reality of the times at the time, as Schmidt emphasizes. On the club's internet platform, the song is offered as a free download, and interested parties are invited to listen to the music and maybe already participate in the next shooting range.

September 21 will be a special day on which the shooting range opens its gates. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., children are allowed to practice with light rifles, while adults and young people can test their accuracy with different types of weapons. The club also provides information about its activities and the fascinating world of the shooting system.

The hymn "Standingly in Reichenbach" could not only inspire the members of the association, but also the broader community and help to carry the tradition of the Reichenbach shooters in the present.
