Covered smear crime: Ukrainian taxi driver and Eritreaner arrested

Police check on Görlitz city bridge reveals a smuggling case

On Wednesday morning there was an unexpected incident on the Görlitz city bridge when officials from the federal police checked a Polish VW Sharan. The vehicle turned out to be a taxi, which was driven by a 69-year-old Ukrainian who lives near Zgorzelec.

The Ukrainer's journey took an unexpected turn when it turned out that a 30-year-old Eritreaner were on the back seat in the passenger seat and a 26-year-old Ethiopian couple. The 30-year-old was able to identify himself, but was also arrested. The two 26-year-olds had no necessary entry documents and were also brought to the office.

After initial investigations, it turned out that the Eritreaner was a friend of the 26-year-old Ethiopian and had traveled to Zgorzelec to meet him. Together they decided to use the Ukrainian taxi to cross the border.

The 69-year-old taxi driver and the Eritreaner are now suspected of smuggling. While the Ukrainian returned to Poland, the 30-year-old Eritreaner has his center of life in Zwickau, where he has a German residence permit.

The two smuggled people, the 26-year-old woman and the 26-year-old man from Ethiopia, were later returned to Poland. The Federal Police Inspection Ludwigsdorf continues the investigation in this case.
