Renewable energy in focus: Göttingen starts green future initiative
The new "Energy Region Göttingen GmbH" has officially started its work to increase the proportion of renewable energies in the region. The aim is to become climate -neutral by 2030 by at least 50 percent of the electricity from sustainable sources. At the founding event, Mayor Petra Broistedt emphasized the importance of including people with a small wallet in the energy transition. Initiatives such as balcony power plants are to be funded.
The company, in the Stadtwerke Göttingen and the EAM 20 percent and the city hold 22.5 percent of the shares, enables municipalities and energy cooperatives to participate. This is intended to ensure that profits from electricity generation remain in the region. Financial support of 15,000 euros from the climate protection competition "Klima Kommunal" was also assured. The projects will be implemented in cooperation with local partners such as the municipal utility and EAM. The new society wants to strengthen local connection and guarantee economic participation in energy generation in order to increase acceptance among the citizens. more details at www.hna.de .
