Art without presence: Miriam Cahn gives the Kaiserring new shine

The city of Goslar symbolically gave the coveted emperor to the artist Miriam Cahn, who, however, stayed away from the award ceremony in order to let her art go ahead. Instead of her personal presence, Cahn presented a work of art specially created for the occasion - a sculpture of a left arm, which is now being exhibited together with the Kaiserring in the Mönchhaus Museum. This traditional award is considered one of the most important honors for modern art in Germany.

Miriam Cahn, who is known for her urgent work, deals primarily with social issues, including refugee crises. Her works, which have already been shown in international cities such as Venice, Tokyo and Paris, are characterized by the representation of human vulnerability. The Kaiserring, which has been awarded annually since 1975 and consists of an aquamarine made in gold, will in future play a central role in the planned exhibition in the Mönchehaus Museum. The curating of the exhibition takes over Fabrice Hergott, director of the Paris Museum of Modern Art. Further details on this important honor can be found in a current report on www.abendblatt.de .
