Blue disease is spreading in Thuringia: first cases discovered
The blue -tung disease spreads alarming in Thuringia, and the authorities are on the greatest alert. The latest reports show that the first cases were found in the Gotha region, in two sheep farms that are adjacent to the Wartburg district. The Gotha district administration has informed the public about this worrying trend.
This viral disease, which occurs primarily in sheep and cattle, has been shown in Thuringia since mid -August 2023. So far, a total of seven sheep and four cattle have been infected with the virus. The Eichsfeldkreis are particularly affected with six cases, followed by the Wartburg district with four and the Nordhaus group in which a case occurred. The increasing number of cases force the authorities to take measures as soon as possible.
spread and monitoring
The serotype 3 of the blue -tongue disease has found its way from northwestern Europe, especially the Netherlands and Belgium, to Thuringia. While the disease is not a danger to humans, the affected cattle suffers from fever and reduced food intake. This has potentially serious economic consequences for agriculture, since sick animals require special care and possibly higher veterinary bills.
By August 23, 2023, more than 4,800 infected farms were reported nationwide, with North Rhine-Westphalia with 2,465 cases of the highest number. Numerous circles are also affected in Thuringia, but the ’other’ regions have so far been spared. With the discovery of the disease in Gotha, however, the responsible bodies have decided to monitor these areas more intensively in order to prevent the disease from spreading further.
The situation requires a reliable source of information for farmers and cattle breeders to understand the further effects of the blue -tongue disease on the welfare and the creation of agricultural companies. From now on, special attention is paid to monitoring and protecting the possible hotspots in order to effectively contain the spread.
The fear of further increase in cases grows, and it is all the more important that pet owners regularly observe their animals and take measures immediately in signs of illness. Agriculture in Thuringia faces a challenge that not only affects the health of the animals, but also endanger the economic stability of the affected companies in the region.
