Extensive construction measure in Gotha: Improvement of wastewater disposal and infrastructure

From August 8, 2024, the Gotha and Waterpreak Association begins with a comprehensive construction measure to expand the valley wage collector. This important mixed water canal, which extends from the ESSO petrol station to the viaduct in Enckestrasse, is crucial for the wastewater disposal of the city of Gotha and adjacent communities. The work is created for a total of twelve months and are carried out in various construction phases.

In order to inform the residents about the project, the city administration, led by Mayor Knut Kreuch, organized a comprehensive citizens' event. The most important information was presented here and questions were answered directly to promote communication between the builders and the population. Despite the extensive construction work, various traffic impairments will be inevitable. However, these are addressed by a clever planning in three construction phases with the aim of minimizing these restrictions.

Expansion of the channel to protect against heavy rain

The Tallage collector has the function of deriving wastewater from the city as well as adjacent places such as Uelleben and Sundhausen. In the upcoming project, an expansion of the existing channel from an egg profile with 750/500 mm to a modern circular profile between 800 and 1000 mm is necessary. This measure is not only a reaction to the increasing wastewater volume through the extended Gotha-Süd industrial area, but also a preventive measure against backwater effects in heavy rain. The section, which runs under Enckestraße, is particularly at risk, since there would be more wastewater in the wild trench if overloaded.

Sustainable measures for infrastructure improvement

In addition to improving the Tallage collector, other important infrastructure measures are also implemented as part of this project. The drinking water pipe in the construction site is renewed, while the city of Gotha sidewalks and street lighting as well as Stadtwerke Gotha Netz GmbH Gas- und Power Man. This comprehensive coordination of all construction work aims to modernize the construction area holistically and to improve the quality of life in the urban area.

The extensive construction measure, whose total volume is 3.5 million euros gross, also shows the economic cooperation between the city and regional companies. After a public tender, Strabag GmbH Erfurt will implement the project, whereby 2.6 million euros are planned for sewer construction. This illustrates the high priority that the city of Gotha places on the sustainable development of its infrastructure.
